REMEDIATION OF THE WALTZ MILL SITE
Dear Mr. Malsch:
I am writing in response to your July 13, 2006, letter to Luis A. Reyes, Executive Director for Operations of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), inquiring if the NRC will docket two applications pertaining to the Waltz Mill site in western Pennsylvania and proceed to consider them on their safety merits.
The staff of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation acknowledges receipt of CBSs application, dated July 12, 2006, Application to Amend TR-2 Final Decommissioning Plan, Rev No. 1 NRC Docket No. 50-22." The staff will review it for sufficiency, that is, whether it is complete and acceptable for docketing. It will be available to the public on the NRC website at:
http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/pdr.html.
Regarding the second application, also dated July 12, 2006, Application for Order Regarding NRC License No. SNM-770, NRC Docket 070-00698 or, in the Alternative, for an Amendment to SNM-770, the application will not be accepted for docketing. CBS is not the holder of License No. SNM-770 and, therefore, cannot apply for an amendment to that license. See 10 CFR § 50.90.
