October 30, 2006 Mr. Christopher M. Crane President and Chief Nuclear Officer Exelon Nuclear Exelon Generation Company, LLC 4300 Winfield Road Warrenville, IL 60555

SUBJECT:

BRAIDWOOD STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, SUPPLEMENTAL INSPECTION SCHEDULING

Dear Mr. Crane:

This letter supplements our mid-cycle performance review issued on August 31, 2006. As documented in the mid-cycle performance review we have assessed Braidwood Station Plant, Units 1 and 2, performance to be in the Regulatory Response column of the NRCs Action Matrix based on one inspection finding being classified as having low to moderate significance (White) in the public radiation safety cornerstone. On October 20, 2006, we were notified by Mr. Dale Ambler of your staff that you will have completed your applicable actions for that finding by December 22, 2006, and following that date will be ready for the NRC to conduct our supplemental inspection to review the actions taken to address the White finding. That finding and related violations were finalized in a letter dated June 29, 2006, and involved multiple failures by your staff to adequately evaluate the radiological hazards associated with the leaks from the circulating water blowdown line vacuum breaker valves and to assess the environmental impact of the resultant onsite and offsite tritium contamination. Therefore, we plan to conduct a supplemental inspection beginning on January 29, 2007, using Inspection Procedure 95001, Supplemental Inspection for One or Two White Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area. This inspection procedure is conducted to provide assurance that the root causes and contributing causes of risk significant performance issues are understood, the extent of condition is identified, and the corrective actions are sufficient to prevent recurrence.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from
