Dear Mr. Malsch:
I am writing in response to your July 13, 2006, letter to Luis A. Reyes, Executive Director forOperations of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), inquiring if the NRC will dockettwo applications pertaining to the Waltz Mill site in western Pennsylvania and proceed toconsider them on their safety merits.The staff of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation acknowledges receipt of CBS's application, dated July 12, 2006, "Application to Amend TR-2 Final Decommissioning Plan, RevNo. 1 NRC Docket No. 50-22." The staff will review it for sufficiency, that is, whether it is complete and acceptable for docketing. It will be available to the public on the NRC website at:http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/pdr.html.Regarding the second application, also dated July 12, 2006, "Application for Order RegardingNRC License No. SNM-770, NRC Docket 070-00698 or, in the Alternative, for an Amendmentto SNM-770," the application will not be accepted for docketing.
