ACCEPTANCE OF U. S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, MARITIMEADMINISTRATION QUALITY ASSURANCE PLAN, REVISION 1, FOR THE NUCLEAR SHIP SAVANNAH

Dear Mr. Koehler:

On February 28, 2007, the U.S. Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration(MARAD) submitted its Decommissioning Quality Assurance Plan (QAP), Rev. 1, for the N.S.

SAVANNAH to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for review and approval. In accordance with 10 CFR 50.54(a)(2), MARAD was required to submit a description of its QAP for the NS SAVANNAH, for inclusion into the Safety Analysis Report, to NRC by June 10, 1983.

Submittal of Rev. 1 of the Decommissioning QAP brings MARAD into compliance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.54(a)(2).The staff has reviewed that QAP and determined that it will provide acceptable controls fordecommissioning activities.
