SUBJECT:

SECTION 106 CONSULTATION FOR THE NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK NUCLEAR SHIP SAVANNAH DECOMMISSIONING PROJECT (DOCKET NUMBER: 50-238)

Dear Ms. Voulgaris:

By letter dated April 20, 2018, the Maritime Administration (MARAD) notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of MARADs proposal to commence decommissioning and license termination of the nuclear production facilities located onboard the National Historic Landmark vessel Nuclear Ship Savannah. By this same letter, MARAD invited the NRC to participate in the consultation under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) for MARADs proposed decommissioning project and vessel disposal, with MARAD acting as the lead federal agency for the consultation.

The NRC accepts MARADs invitation to participate in the NHPA Section 106 consultation process, and I have designated Mr. James Park of my staff to be the NRC point of contact for this consultation. Mr. Park can be contacted by phone at 301-415-6954 or via e-mail at James.Park@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

\RA\
