SUMMARY
This report is intended to detail the pertinent activities related to the Texas A&M University AGN-201M training facility operated by the Department of Nuclear Engineering during the period of 1 June 2010 until 31 May 2011. The contents of this report are intended to comply with the requirements of IOCFR50 section 50.59 and Section 6.9.1 of the Technical Specifications for this facility under license R-23.The main function of this facility is to provide an operating nuclear system to be used in support of the requirements of Nuclear Engineering courses, as a research tool, and for operator training as well as preventive maintenance.
During this reporting period, the AGN-20 1 M reactor was started up for the first time in over 10 years after the completion of all required maintenance.
Mr. Christopher Crouch was appointed Reactor Supervisor in November 2009 and after examination he received a SRO license from the NRC. With this license he oversaw the maintenance and re-startup of the AGN-201M reactor. Since August 2010 the AGN-201M has been performing its main function with the addition of student workers who have received SRO and/or RO licenses.2. OPERATIONAL

- 3. UNSCHEDULED SHUTDOWNS 10 June 2010: Reactor SCRAM at 5E-03 W due to "High Power Linear Channel".SCRAM was spurious, suspected problem with self-scaling function of linear channel. Troubleshooting IAW startup plan.11 June 2010: Reactor SCRAM at 1.4E-02 W due to "High Power Linear Channel".Suspected problem with scaling of linear channel. Troubleshooting JAW startup plan.14 June 2010: Reactor SCRAM at 3.3E-02 W due to "Low Power Log Channel".Troubleshooting JAW startup plan.30 Sept. 2010: Period SCRAM due to operator error. Operator drove the in during low power operations too quickly. No corrective action required.30 Sept. 2010: Reactor SCRAM due to operator error. Operator inadvertently closed AGN program. No corrective action required.3 Dec. 2010: Earthquake SCRAM due to bumping reactor tank. No corrective action required.4. MAJOR SAFETY RELATED CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE 13 June 2010: Replaced channel 3 meter with Kiethley Model 6487 Picoammeter.
Meter was replaced due to suspected problems with meter scaling.18 June 2010: Replaced channel 1 detector with smaller BF3 tube. Replacement was required due to size and sensitivity of channel 1 detector.5. (a) FACILITY CHANGES Additional shielding was erected on the east side of the AGN-20 I M reactor. This concrete wall stands 6.7 feet high, 6.5 feet wide and 1.9 feet deep. The wall was put into place in order to lower general radiation levels to operators and students participating in laboratory experiments.(b) CHANGES TO PLANS AND PROCEDURES The emergency plan has been changed to alleviate a discrepancy between standard facility and NRC emergency terminology for reactor emergencies.(c) NEW EXPERIMENTS OR TESTS No new experiments or test were performed during this reporting period.6.
SUMMARY
OF SAFETY EVALUATIONS No changes, test or experiments were performed during this reporting period, which meet the criteria of I OCFR50 paragraph 50.59 requiring a safety evaluation.
