TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE REQUEST - REVIEW THE PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION REQUEST FOR EXEMPTION

FROM PHYSICAL SECURITY REQUIREMENTS (TAC NO. L24750)

The Division of Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation (SFST), Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), requests technical assistance from the Division of Security

Policy (DSP), Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR), for the completion of the following project:

PROJECT: Security Evaluation of the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant (PINGP) Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) Request for Exemption from Physical Security Requirements. The ADAMS Accession Number for the package is ML131400116.

DOCKET NOS.: 72-10; 50-282; 50-306 TAC NO: L24750 LICENSE NOS.: SNM-2506; DPR-42; DPR-60

REQUESTED ACTION: NMSS/SFST requests that NSIR/DSP review PINGP's request for exemption from physical security requirements. Based on the results of your review, prepare a Security Evaluation documenting the staff's reasons for approving or denying the proposed changes.

To facilitate this request, we ask that you respond by June 23, 2013. Should any additional information be needed from the applicant to support your review, we ask that you transmit a draft request for additional information to us by September 17, 2013. The applicant will normally be allowed two months to provide a response. The SFST project manager will keep your staff informed of any schedule changes.
