OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON DECEMBER 9, 2008, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND NORTHERN STATES POWER, CONCERNING FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS PERTAINING TO THE SEVERE ACCIDENT MITIGATION ALTERNATIVES REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NO. MD 8528 AND MD8529)
On December 9, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and its contractors from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory conducted a conference call (teleconference) with representatives from Northern States Power (NSP) and its contractors to discuss follow up questions regarding the original requests for additional information (RAI) regarding the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2 (PINGP 1 and 2) severe accident mitigation alternatives (SAMA) analysis. The teleconference was useful in clarifying the intent of the staffs SAMA follow up RAIs.
The staff and contractors discussed the PINGP 1 and 2 SAMA follow up RAIs with NSP and gained clarification as to specific line items. A list of teleconference participants is enclosed.
No changes were made to the follow up RAIs which were subsequently sent to NSP by letter dated December 24, 2008 (ML083520121). No staff decisions were made during the teleconference.
