Dear Duane,

After consulting with the chair of our oversight committee, and yourself, I feel that appending a sixty day extension to all of the sets (i.e. the 8 September deadline becomes an 8 October deadline, etc.) will ensure the highest probability of success, particularly in light of the activities by SRS in September. Therefore, I am requesting sixty days in lieu of the thirty in my previous request.

--jere Jere: I am responding to verify that 30 days extension will be sufficient. I believe that classes have or will start soon and that you also have a requirement to take your qualification exam. Obviously, I want to move the license renewal forward as expeditiously as possible, but also do not want to inform my management that you were unable to meet the extension deadline due to circumstances that may have been foreseen. s beyond our control, we will be unable to for the three sets of Requests for Additional UR-1 license renewal. The complicating Very short completion timeline for a DOE/NNSA security infrastructure contract, which necessitated compression of the six month project into three months ending 31 August.

• Two unplanned maintenance outages, one extending from 8 February to 4 August, and one currently underway, which began 4 August.

• The reactor staff of three being reduced by attrition from three to two (in January

2011) and then to one, myself, in May 2011.

• The search for a replacement for the retired reactor supervisor, presently underway.

• The removal of eleven tons of orphan source material by Savannah River, which must be completed by 30 September. A high priority has been placed on this by the administration. If this does not get completed now, it may not get done for years.

• Other administrative issues.

Therefore, we are requesting extensions of 30 days on all due dates, and we appreciate your consideration in this matter.
