.QUARTERLY DATA REPORT SHNPP SEISMIC MONITORING PROGRAM OCTOBER 1 1980-DECEMBER 31 1980-Carolina Power.'Light Company has completed another quarter of operation of i,ts seismic monitoring program at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant Site near New Hill, North Carolina.During this period a total of 63 cultural events were recorded with an.S-P of less than 5 seconds.No local earthquakes were detected.Of these 63 events, 54 were confirmed as being explosions,by the responsible companies or agencies.The remaining 9 events displayed the signature and arrival pattern of previously identified cultural events and all of them occurred during daylight hours.Only one of these events was,recorded on a weekend or holiday: Date.GMT at Sta.'S-P at Sta.4Probable

'Source 10-11-80 Saturday 18:27:10.5 3.2 Highway Construction This event occurred approximately 27 kilometers northeast of the plant site in the vicinity of a four-lane highway that is currently under construction.

Many construction blasts have been recorded from this area in the past that were later confirmed as being explosions by the responsible contractor.
