October 10, 2008 Mr. Michael J. Curley, Reactor Director Worcester Polytechnic Institute Office of the Vice President for Finance and Operations 100 Institute Road Worcester, MA 01609-2280
SUBJECT:
CHANGE IN NRC STAFF PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE
Dear Mr. Curley:
On October 17, 2008, the NRC staff project management for your facility will transfer from the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Division of Policy and Rulemaking, Research and Test Reactors Branch A to the Office of Federal and State Materials and Environmental Management Programs (FSME), Division of Waste Management and Environmental Protection (DWMEP), Decommissioning and Uranium Recovery Licensing Directorate (DURLD) because your facility's licensing and safety basis now reflects a permanently shutdown reactor in possession-only status. This change in regulatory oversight will enhance NRC processing of any decommissioning-related licensing actions that you may elect to submit and it will secure FSME experience and expertise in the evaluation of any future dismantlement, decontamination, fuel removal and transportation, waste transportation, and license termination activities.
Mr. Ted H. Carter, FSME/DWMEP/DURLD, has been assigned as your new Project Manager and will relieve me of my duties effective October 17, 2008. He can be reached at (301) 415-5543. Future official correspondence should be directed to the Document Control Desk with a copy sent directly to:
Ted H. Carter U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Mail Stop T-8-F-5 Washington, DC 20555 If you have any questions or comments regarding this change in project management oversight, please call me at (301) 415-1127.
Sincerely,
/RA/ Alexander Adams, Jr., Senior Project Manager Research and Test Reactors Branch A Division of Policy and Rulemaking Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
