SUBJECT:

Perry Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-440, License No. NPF-58 Readiness for NRC Inspection Procedure (IP) 95002 "Supplemental Inspection for One Degraded Cornerstone or Any Three White Inputs in a Strategic Performance Area" In the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) Annual Assessment Letter for Perry Nuclear Power Plant (Report 05000440/2011007, ADAMS Accession No.ML12065A157), dated March 5, 2012, the NRC staff requested that FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) advise the staff, in writing, when FENOC is ready for the supplemental inspection at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP) using NRC Inspection Procedure (IP) 95002,. "Supplemental Inspection for One Degraded Cornerstone or Any Three-White Inputs in a.Strategic Performance Area." In letter L-12-176, dated April 30, 2012, P,.NPP informed the staff that FENOC was ready for the I P 95002 inspection.

On June 11, 2012, PNPP requested that the NRC postpone the planned 95002 Supplemental Inspection.

The request was made because some questions arose regarding the completeness and adequacy of the corrective actions that were developed to address the root and contributing causes of the previously identified performance issues. PNPP requested additional time to conduct a further review to assure that the plant was adequately prepared for the NRC's supplemental inspection.

We will advise the NRC in writing when this review is completed and FENOC is ready for the supplemental inspection at the PNPP. There are no regulatory commitments contained in this letter. If there are any questions, or if additional information is required, please contact Mr. Robert Coad, Manager -Regulatory Compliance, at (440) 280-5328.Sincerely, Vito A Kaminskas:
