NRC Staff Response to TVA Revision to Watts Bar 2 Commitment on Foxboro Spec 200 Hardware InstallationThis e-mail documents the NRC staff's acknowledgement of a revision to a licensing commitment made by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in support of the NRC staff's review of TVA's application for an operating license for Watts Bar Nuclear Plant (WBN) Unit 2. By letter dated December 3, 2015 (ML15337A130), TVA notified the NRC regarding its revision of a licensing commitment regarding the installation of Foxboro Spec 200 hardware. TVA had previously committed to complete the installation of the updated hardware in WBN Unit 2 instrument loops that support WBN Unit 1 operation prior to fuel loading on WBN Unit 2. The NRC staff acknowledged this commitment in its review of the Foxboro Spec 200 hardware documented in NUREG-0847 Supplement 23, "Safety Evaluation Report Related to the Operation of Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, Unit 2," July 2011. TVA's December 3, 2015, letter notified the NRC that the commitment was being revised to complete installation of the Foxboro Spec 200 equipment in the affected WBN Unit 2 instrument loops prior to WBN Unit 2 entering Mode 4.
NRC staff in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation conducted a brief assessment of the change to the previously acknowledged commitment and determined that there was no objection to the change in the commitment. TVA staff was notified by telephone on December 4, 2015, that the staff acknowledged the revised commitment. Robert G.
