The Duane Arnold Energy Center was shutdown on June 17, 1978 as a result of increased drywell leakage. That leakage was determined to originate from a recirculation riser safe end. The plant was shutdown during the remainder of the year, while replacing all recirculation riser safe ends.
Because of the shutdown condition, gaseous effluents decreased below the lower limit of detection for most radionuclides and could not be accurately measured. The quantities reported are based on calculated values, utilizing the following assumptions:
- 1) Production of gaseous radionuclides ceased with the plant shut-down on June 17, 1978.
- 2) Concentrations of gaseous radionuclides decrease as function of the nuclides half-life only.
- 3) An individual nuclide could be considered as not present if the concentration was below its lower limit of detection.
