"At approximately 0914 EST on January 27th, 2014, a live sturgeon was removed from the Salem Unit 2 Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash racks at the S alem Generating Station. The sturgeon was confirmed by a site biological expert to be an Atlantic sturgeon which is an "endangered" species. Atlantic sturgeons are federally listed as "endangered" species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hr report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a. At approximately 0937 EST the sturgeon was released back into the Delaware River following identification. A report was made to the National Marine Fisheries at 0952 EST and the NJDEP Division of Fish &
Wildlife at 0954, concerning the Atlantic sturgeon by Environmental licensing. "
The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector and the Lower Alloways Creek Township.
Notified R1DO (Burritt) and Endangered Species Office via email.
