Also, with respect to the 96 hour review period for the 108% hold point, and decision regarding further power ascension (mentioned in the email below), the staff has decided that it has objections to further power ascension. We believe that further power ascension is not warranted at this time based on the issues discussed in RAI-11. As noted in the RAI:
below.
The NRC staff has reviewed the information the licensee provided and has determined that additional information, as described below, needs to be provided to help inform the staff's decision on the acceptability of the proposed change in methodology as well as power ascension beyond 108% of 3514 MWt.

We don't have all the needed staff for a call today. It looks like we could support a call on Sunday 4/26 at either of the following time periods: 12:30 - 1:15 pm 4:15 - 5:00 pm

Peach Bottom Unit 2 Power Ascension - Feedback Regarding 108% Call Today Here's some feedback from the NRC staff and contractor internal discussions following our call today with Exelon and Westinghouse concerning the Peach Bottom Unit 2 power ascension 108% information: 1) The NRC and its contractors are still having internal discussions regarding the information Exelon provided for the 108% hold point at Peach Bottom Unit 2.

: 2) There are still concerns regarding the methodology. The concerns relate whether the proper modes were selected in the analysis. The raises uncertainty regarding whether the stresses currently calculated are correct. The staff and contractors are working over the weekend to specifically document these concerns. It is likely that additional information will be needed to address the methodology concerns.

: 3) We have not yet made a decision regarding power ascension from 108% to 112.4%. Further internal discussions are needed to determine if there is reasonable assurance of structural integrity of the steam dryer at the full EPU power level given the concerns with the methodology. The staff plans to make a decision prior to the end of the 96 hour license condition review period (i.e., by 7:40 pm on Sunday 4/26). 4) Rick Ennis will contact Ken Ainger by 3:00 pm on Saturday, 4/25 with a status update.

Peach Bottom Unit 2 Power Ascension - Feedback Regarding 108% Call Today

Here's some feedback from the NRC staff and contractor internal discussions following our call today with Exelon and Westinghouse concerning the Peach Bottom Unit 2 power ascension 108% information:

1) The NRC and its contractors are still having in ternal discussions regarding the information Exelon provided for the 108% hold point at Peach Bottom Unit 2.
2) There are still concerns regarding the methodology. The concerns relate whether the proper modes were selected in the analysis. The raises uncertainty regarding whether the stresses currently calculated are correct. The staff and contractors are working over the weekend to specifically document these concerns. It is likely that additional information will be needed to address the methodology concerns.
3) We have not yet made a decision regarding power ascension from 108% to 112.4%. Further internal discussions are needed to determine if there is reasonable assurance of structural integrity of the steam dryer at the full EPU power level given the concerns with the methodology. The staff plans to make a decision prior to the end of the 96 hour0.00111 days
0.0267 hours
1.587302e-4 weeks
3.6528e-5 months
license condition review period (i.e., by 7:40 pm on Sunday 4/26).
4) Rick Ennis will contact Ken Ainger by 3:00 pm on Saturday, 4/25 with a status update.
