[External_Sender] Docket ID NRC-2020-0234 I am writing regarding Docket ID NRC-2020-0234, to ask that the NRC mandate a complete environmental review of Dominions request for an 80-year operating license for the North Anna nuclear power plant. Since our family lives in Crozet and Charlottesville, the safety of this plant has an immediate impact on our lives. North Anna nuclear power station is near the epicenter of the 5.7 magnitude earthquake in 2011any permit renewal review must thoroughly account for that kind of risk. In particular, the NRC should require a new Environmental Impact Statement which includes a thorough examination of geologic risks. (This has not been done since the 2011 earthquake.) The NRCs review should include the following:
A new assessment of Severe Accident Mitigation Alternatives (SAMA) conducted by Dominion.
(The last SAMA occurred in 2001.)
Harvesting and testing of components of the North Anna reactors to determine if they can operate safely for 80 years.
A new assessment of the structural integrity of the Lake Anna damn which holds the water for cooling the reactors.
An updated plan for the safe storage of the increasing radioactive waste stored at the power station.
A full public hearing on the license application which allows the public to speak and considers independent expert testimony.
Nuclear power may be a necessary bridge technology to get us through the climate crisisbut it has to be generated safely. Thank you.
