The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed Mr. Lochbaum's petition dated July 10, 2012, submitted on behalf of the North Carolina Waste Awareness

The NRC staffs proposed Director's Decision under Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 2, Section 206, "Requests for action under this subpart," is enclosed.

I request that Carolina Power & Light Company (the licensee), provide comments to me on any part of the proposed Director's Decision that the licensee believes to be erroneous, or any issues in the petition that the licensee believes have not been addressed. The NRC staff will then review any comments provided by you and the petitioner and consider them in the final version of the Director's Decision, with no further opportunity to comment.
