Gentlemen, As you may have heard, Millstone Unit 3 had a scram with significant complications over the weekend (httg://nrrl0.nrc.gov/roe/event/en-internal.cfm#en4l607). In accordance with Management Directive 8.3, Incident Investigation Program (htto://www.intemal.nrc.aov/ADM/DAS/caa/Manaaement Directives/imd8.3.cif), one of the roles of the NRR Office Director, Jim Dyer, is to discuss the merit of an Augmented Inspection Team (AIT) with the Regional Administrator and the Director of the Incident Response Center.

Our section has the responsibility for providing the AIT recommendation, in consultation with appropriate NRR staff, to Jim Dyer. Brett Rini of my staff will be setting up a meeting sometime today to develop our recommendation which, at a minimum, needs SPSB support and should ideally have SRXB and EMEB support. Please do your best to accommodate Brett and feel free to call me (301-938-9637) if yo have any questions.
