At approximately 1340 EST on January 6, 2014, one deceased sturgeon was removed from the Circulation Water System (CWS) intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The sturgeon was confirmed by a site biological expert to be an Atlantic sturgeon which is an "endangered" species. Atlantic and short nose sturgeons are federally listed as "endangered" species under the endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this is a 4 hour report to the NRC under RAL 11.8.2.a.
