Welding Procedures were qualified in accordance with ASME Section IX. WSI performed a mock-up at McGuire in which they used their WPS A08165 rev F and weld traveler to exercise their welding equipment, procedures, and operators. Following a successful mockup they performed welding of the canopy seal weld.

John, In response to your questions, here is the information you requested:

(1) Discuss to which ASME Code section and/or subsections that the welding procedures are qualified? Was a mockup prepared for the welding procedure qualification?

Welding Procedures were qualified in accordance with ASME Section IX. WSI performed a mock-up at McGuire in which they used their WPS A08165 rev F and weld traveler to exercise their welding equipment, procedures, and operators. Following a successful mockup they performed welding of the canopy seal weld.

(2) The licensee mentioned Code Case N-740 as discussed in the Structural Integrity Associates' report. Code Case N-740 allows the ambient temperature temper bead welding. Is the ambient temperature temper beading welding used to repair the canopy seal?

The base materials for the CRDM housing are austenitic stainless steel.

Temperbead technique was not required and was not used for welding these materials.

(3) The licensee stated that it will use the GTAW weld process. Discuss whether it is the manual or automatic GTAW.

WSI used what ASME Section IX calls Machine Welding GTAW process.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need more information.

Thanks!!!!
