Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Unit Nos. 1 & 2; Docket Nos. 50-317 & 50-318 Emergency Response Data System Transition from Existing Modem to Virtual Private Networking Technology Pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix E, Section VI.3, "Maintaining Emergency Response Data System" Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, LLC (Calvert Cliffs) is submitting this letter to inform the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) of changes to the Calvert Cliffs Emergency Response Data System (ERDS).              These changes will involve transition from modem-based communications to virtual private network (VPN) technology.
The ERDS changes are scheduled to be implemented in 2011, pending coordinated testing and scheduling with the NRC ERDS Transition team. During implementation, the existing ERDS link will remain available and the ability to activate the existing ERDS link (if required) will not be affected.
This information is being provided to comply with 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix E, Section VI.3.b, which requires NRC notification at least 30 days prior to any ERDS hardware or software changes that could affect the transmission format and computer communication protocol.
This letter contains no new regulatory commitments.
