Docket No. 50-602, Request for Renewal of Facility Operating License R-129 REF: UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN -REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE LICENSE RENEWAL REQUEST FOR THE NUCLEAR ENGINEERING TEACHING LABORATORY TRIGA MARK I1 NUCLEAR RESEARCH REACTOR (TAC NO. ME7694) --July 31, 2015 correspondence Sir: Regarding inconsistencies in results of excess reactivity and control rod worth calculations in the July 15, 2015 submission, two transcriptions errors have been identified in input data. Material specifications for two lightly burned fuel elements were inadvertently copied twice from into an early core configuration.

Because new elements are introduced into outer ring positions, the effect was minor and not immediately apparent.

When irradiation and movement into a higher worth position was simulated, the effect was more significant but appeared to be trending and was therefore not identified as anomalous.

Material composition is currently being recalculated with additional measures to assure quality data, and currently near completion.

However, reactivity calculations using the data remain to be accomplished.

We therefore are requesting 90 days to complete the work (with contingencies for additional material calculations, should they be required, included in the request. Please contact me by phone at 512-232-5373 or email whalev@~mail.utexas.edu if you require additional information or there is a problem with this submittal.
