Consistent with Section 7 of the Endangered Species 'Act, GPUN provided the NRC and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS)'with an " Assessment of the Impacts of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station on Kemp's Ridley and Loggerhead Sea Turtles" dated December 1994. The purpose of the assessment was to examine the potential impacts associated with the continued operation of the plant. By letter dated January 19, 1995 the NRC agreed with GPUN's conclusion that the continued operation of the plant will not jeopardize the continued existence of. endangered or threatened sea turtles. The assessment is currently being reviewed by NMFS.

.The 0CNGS is a single. cycle, forced circulation, boiling water reactor of 620MWsmaximum(summer)dependablenetcapacity,ownedbyJerseyCentral

' Power & Light Company and operated by GPU Nuclear Corporation. . The OCNGS is located -in Lacey Township, Ocean County, New. Jersey. 'The plantiis 'j subject to . Operating License No. DPR-16. The= date of initial . reactor criticality was May 3,1969 and the commercial generation of. power began on-December 23, 1969. _

This AEOR covers the period from January 1,1994 through December 31,

~1994. The. report is organized in the'following format:

Section 1.0 - Introduction .

Section 2.0 - Environmental Monitoring Section 3.0 - Special Monitoring and Study Activities Section 4.0 - Additional Information 2.0 Environmental Monitorina This section is intended' to address the results of environmental l monitoring required to be implemented by Section 1.1 of the OCETS during .

the report period.- The Fish Kill Monitoring Program is the only environmental monitoring required by Section 1.1 There were no fish kills during the reporting period and therefore this monitoring program was not implemented.

which Pertain to the Reauirements of OCETS .j NJPDES Permit No. NJ0005550, which authorizes discharges to.the waters of ]

the State of New Jersey from the Oyster Creek facility, was reissued with - '

an effective date of December 1, .1994 and an expiration date of November.' -;

30, 1999. As part of this process, the NJDEP terminated the Forked River ll site's NJPDES permit and consolidated.its requirements into the reissuance i' of the Oyster Creek NJPDES permit.
