on May 6, to provide information on the agency=s 2009 assessment of the safety performance for the Arkansas Nuclear One nuclear plant. The plant, located in Russellville, is operated by Entergy Operations, Inc.

The open house will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lake Point Conference Center, 61 Lake Point Lane, Russellville.

At the open house, members of the public will have an opportunity to meet informally with the NRC staff, ask questions and learn about the agencys role in ensuring safe plant operation.

AThe NRC continually reviews the performance of Arkansas Nuclear One and the nation=s other commercial nuclear power facilities,@ NRC Region IV Administrator Elmo E.

Collins said. AThis informal meeting will provide member of the public with an opportunity to learn about our annual assessment of safety performance at the plant.

The NRC said Arkansas One operated safely during 2009 and will receive the detailed inspection regime used by the NRC for plants that are operating well during 2010.

These inspections are performed by NRC Resident Inspectors assigned to the plant and by inspection specialists from the Region IV Office in Arlington, Texas.

A letter sent from the NRC Region IV office to plant officials addresses the performance of the plant during 2009 and will serve as the basis for the meeting discussion. It is available on the NRC web site at:
