S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Dr. Nils J. Diaz, is scheduled to visit the Turkey Point nuclear power plant, operated by Florida Power & Light Company near Homestead, Florida, on Friday, April 21 to tour the site and to discuss regulatory oversight at the facility with company officials. He will hold a press conference for interested news media representatives at the plant site from 11:00 to 11:40 a.m.

Chairman Diaz has been a strong advocate of making sound regulatory decisions while communicating those decisions in a clear manner to the public and has played a leadership role in security issues affecting NRC licensees.

Before his NRC appointment, Dr. Diaz was Professor of Nuclear Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida and served as director of a national consortium of industries, universities and national laboratories involved with nuclear power in space. He also served as Associate Dean for Research at the California State University in Long Beach and was at one time Principal Advisor to Spains Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Nuclear Engineering Sciences from the University of Florida and a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Villanova, Havana, Cuba.

Take the Florida Turnpike south to its last exit at Florida City, turn left at the traffic light onto Palm Drive and follow that road to the plant.
