NRC To Hold Meetings on Environmental Review for Turkey Point Subsequent License Renewal Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will meet in Homestead, Fla., on May 31, to seek the publics views on environmental issues the agency should consider in reviewing Florida Power &

Lights application for an additional 20 years of operation for Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Units 3 and 4.

The NRC will hold meetings at the City of Homestead City Hall, 100 Civic Court in Homestead, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Staff presentations will describe the environmental review process and the proposed review schedule. Each meetings presentations will be followed by a formal public comment period. NRC open houses, scheduled from noon-1 p.m. and 4-5 p.m., will provide the public the opportunity to speak informally with agency staff.

Those wishing to register in advance to comment at the meetings should contact William Burton at 800-368-5642 ext. 6332, or via e-mail at william.burton@nrc.gov by May 24. Those wishing to speak may also register at the meetings no later than 12:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. Individual comments could be limited by the time available and the number of people registering to speak. Individuals with special needs for attending or presenting information at the meetings should contact Burton, also by May 24.

NRC staff will consider written comments on environmental issues until June 21, following the publication of a notice in the Federal Register. Please include Docket ID NRC-2018-0101 with your comment, via the regulations.gov website.

FP&L submitted the Turkey Point subsequent license renewal application on Jan. 30. The subsequent license renewal process determines whether an operating reactor license can be extended for an additional 20 years. The application, minus proprietary details, is available on the NRC website. In addition, the following libraries have agreed to maintain a copy of the applications environmental report for public inspection: Homestead Branch Library at 700 N. Homestead Blvd in Homestead; Naranja Branch Library at 14850 SW 280th St., in Homestead; South Dade Regional Library at 10750 SW 211th St., in Miami; and Miami-Dade Main Library at 101 W. Flagler St. in Miami.
