No: 22-024 June 22, 2022 CONTACT: David McIntyre, 301-415-8200 NRC Makes Supplemental Environmental Report Available for Turkey Point Subsequent License Renewal The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has received a supplemental environmental report from Florida Power & Light regarding the subsequent renewed licenses for the Turkey Point nuclear power reactors in Florida. The environmental report, submitted on June 10, is now available to the public on the NRC website.

FPL submitted the report following several related Commission decisions, one of which concluded the generic environmental impact statement on license renewal did not analyze the environmental impacts of a subsequent license renewal term. The environmental review of the Turkey Point subsequent renewed license relied on the generic environmental impact statement for its analysis of impacts and was therefore deemed incomplete following the Commissions decision.

A separate Commission decision provided an option for license holders, including FPL, to provide additional environmental information on a site-specific basis, instead of waiting for NRC staff to revise the generic environmental impact statement and complete a related rulemaking.

Turkey Points subsequent renewed licenses remain effective, with modified end dates matching those of the initial renewed licenses, until completion of the environmental analysis and a final licensing decision.

The NRC staff is reviewing FPLs report to determine if it is complete and acceptable for processing. If the application is determined to be sufficient for acceptance, the staff will docket it and start a detailed environmental review.
