No: I-14-003 January 29, 2014 CONTACT: Diane Screnci 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan 610-337-5331 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector At Hope Creek Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Justin Hawkins as the senior resident inspector for PSEGs Hope Creek nuclear power plant, in Hancocks Bridge, N.J. Hawkins joins NRC resident inspector Sherlyn Ibarrola at the site.

Hawkins joined the NRC in August 2007 as a reactor engineer. He successfully completed an extensive inspector qualification program, and then worked as a project engineer and reactor inspector in the Region I Division of Reactor Projects. Most recently, he was the resident inspector at the Limerick nuclear power plant.

Hawkins joined the NRC after serving in the US Navy aboard fast-attack submarines for six years.

He earned a bachelors degree in naval architecture from the US Naval Academy and is pursuing a masters at Old Dominion University.

Justin has the training, experience and commitment to safety that is needed for the NRC to carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment, and he will help ensure the safe operations of Hope Creek, said NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean.

At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.

The Hope Creek resident inspectors can be reached at 856-935-5373.
