Diane Screnci 610/337-5330 Neil Sheehan 610/337-5331 NRC ASSIGNS NEW RESIDENT INSPECTOR TO HOPE CREEK NUCLEAR PLANT Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region I office in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Amar Patel as the Resident Inspector at the Hope Creek nuclear power plant in Hancocks Bridge, N.J.

Patel joins Senior Resident Inspector Blake Welling at Hope Creek. Two resident inspectors are also assigned to the adjacent Salem Units 1 & 2. Hope Creek and Salem are operated by PSEG Nuclear.

Patel joined the agencys Region I staff in 2002 after earning a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia. He is a graduate of the NRCs Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program, a two-year training program that provides specialized training in nuclear safety and a broad perspective of NRC regulatory activities. He also completed a rigorous NRC inspector qualification program.

Most recently, Patel was a reactor inspector in the Region I Division of Reactor Safety.

Amar Patel has the training, experience and commitment to safety that will help the NRC carry out its mission of protecting people and the environment and ensuring the safe operation of Hope Creek, said NRC Region I Administrator Samuel J. Collins.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Residents can serve for up to seven years at any one site.
