NRC NAMES NEW RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT LIMERICK NUCLEAR PLANT

Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have

selected Justin Hawkins as the resident inspector for Exelons Limerick

nuclear power plant, in Limerick, Pa. Hawkins joins NRC senior resident

inspector Gene DiPaolo at the two-unit site.

Hawkins joined the NRC in August 2007 as a reactor engineer. He

successfully completed an extensive inspector qualification program. Most

recently, he was a project engineer and reactor inspector in the Region I

Division of Reactor Projects. He has served as an acting resident inspector at a number of

Region I plants, including Limerick, Hope Creek and Calvert Cliffs.

Hawkins joined the NRC after serving in the United States Navy aboard fast-attack

submarines for six years. He earned a bachelors degree in civil engineering from the United

States Naval Academy and a masters in nuclear engineering business management at Old

Dominion University.

Justin Hawkins has the experience and commitment to carry out the NRC mission of

protecting people and the environment, and to help ensure the safe operation of the Limerick

units, said NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean.

At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant.

They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major

work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at

one site for up to seven years.

The Limerick resident inspectors can be reached at 610-327-1344.
