The information is as initially received without verifi-cation or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region II staff on this date.

SUBJECT:

TRI-STATE VEHICLE CARRYING EMPTY UF-6 CYLINDERS IS INVOLVED IN WEST VIRGINIA ACCIDENT General Electric officials informed Region II that a Tri-State Motor Lines truck carrying A man empty UF-6 cylinders was involved in an accident today near Winfield, West Virginia.

in a car involved in the wreck died. The truck driver was uninjured. Officials said there was no damage to the trailer portion of the truck which carried the cylinders, but the cab was damaged, preventing the truck's continuing on to its destination.

A local fire department performed a routine survey of the vehicle and its contents which indicted that no material was released. The Putnam County, West Virginia Department of Emergency Services is assisting in a review of survey results and assessment of damages.

The licensee says a replacement cab will be hooked to the trailer and will continue on to the original destination in Piketon, Ohio. The shipment originated at G.E. in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The cylinders were empty except that they contained small residual amounts of UF-6 known as

" cylinder heels."
