Dear Dr. Locascio:

By letter dated May 16, 2024 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System

[ADAMS] Accession No. ML24113A292), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) informed you of its approval of the Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 2022 triennial update of its decommissioning cost estimate and decommissioning funding plan (DCE/DFP). In its letter, the NRC staff requested NIST to submit a copy of its final 2022 DCE/DFP revision incorporating the information provided in its January 24, 2023 (ML23060A262), May 16, 2023 (ML23136B285), and January 12, 2024 (ML24022A295), supplemental letters. By letter digitally signed on July 9, 2024 (ML24198A145),

by Dr. Elizabeth Mackey, Executive Representative to the Ionizing Radiation Safety Committee, NIST provided the requested information.

The NRC staff reviewed the information in Dr. Mackeys letter and determined that it provided the information requested in the NRC staffs May 16, 2024, letter. As such, all efforts under Enterprise Project Identifier L-2023-RNW-0017 are now closed. The most recent version of the DFP will be reflected in special nuclear material license number 362, which is currently under review for renewal by the NRC staff.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 2, Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) or from the Publicly Available Records component of the NRCs ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. The PDR is open by appointment.
