SUMMARY

OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2021, TELECONFERENCE MEETING WITH ENTERGY OPERATIONS, INC. CONCERNING THE FINAL RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 2004-02 FOR ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNITS 1 AND 2 (EPID L-2017-LRC-0000)

On September 1, 2021, an observation public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Entergy Operations, Inc. (the licensee) via teleconference. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and clarify the NRC staff's request for additional information (RAI) dated July 16, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML21197A037), concerning the licensees final response to Generic Letter 2004-02, Potential Impact of Debris Blockage on Emergency Recirculation During Design Basis Accidents at Pressurized-Water Reactors, at Arkansas Nuclear One, Units 1 and 2. The meeting notice and agenda dated August 20, 2021, are available in ADAMS under Accession No. ML21232A040. A list of attendees is provided in the enclosure.

The licensee presented information (ADAMS Accession No. ML21242A279) regarding its forthcoming RAI response. The presentation included an overview of the scope of the licensees proposed response. The licensee stated that it expects to submit the RAI response in mid-September 2021.

The NRC staff commented on the scope and level of detail for each of the proposed responses during the teleconference meeting. In some cases, the NRC staff requested that the licensee provide further elaboration to ensure that a complete response would be provided for staff evaluation. In particular, the NRC staff noted that the response to RAI-5 could be expanded to help the staff understand which unit fell under what test group in Volume 5 of WCAP-17788-P, Comprehensive Analysis and Test program for GSI-191 Closure. Also, the staff observed that a note could be included with the table in the response to RAI-5 to provide additional clarity of the information presented.

The NRC staff did not make any regulatory decisions or commitments at the meeting. No members of the public introduced themselves during the teleconference. Public Meeting Feedback forms were not received.
