MEMORANDUM FOR: Distribution FROM: C. Jupiter, Siting and Environmental Branch, RES
SUBJECT:
MAXEY FLATS SURVEY A subsurface radar survey was conducted between October 6 and October 13 at the Maxey Flats low-level waste disposal site in Kentucky. This work was ,
-done under contract to Geo-Centers, Inc. in order to define the boundaries ;
of the waste trenches (particularly for the older trenches for which location l records are deficient) and to identify any significant unrecorded burials of waste at the site, if they are present.
The survey was apparently successful and the data is now being processed.
The results of this work will be published as a subsurface map of the waste trenches. Geo-Centers, Inc. will provide preliminary results within thirty days and a final map and report within 120 days. ,
Since the state of Ke:itucky intends to let bids during the next few weeks .
for contracts to cap the trenches on the west' side of the site as a part j of their site stabilization program, Geo-Centers, Inc.'s preliminary results {
will be timely and very useful. It is expected that their 'pr'eliminary (
results will be reported and discussed at a meeting in November in Frankfort, Kentucky. I will be in touch with you regarding the scheduling of this meeting.
Sincerely,
