This is in reference to your TWI of April 30, 1975 pertaining to the nuclear wasta site at Mr. / Flats and asking for our technical assistance.

l As you know, the NRC staff met with your staff on May 7,1975, to obtain a better idea as to how the NRC might be of assistance. As a result of the staff discussions, we have agreed to review recent information developed about conditions at the site, conduct a site visit and advise you of our findings. Our review group conducted the site visit on June 3 and met with State and licensee officials un June 4 and 5. We will make every effort to complete our review by late June.

closely for the past several months. At the request of the Kentucky De-partmenti for Human Resources, we reviewed and commented on the six-month j 4

environmental monitoring study conducted by the Department for the Maxey Flats site. We also participated in a meeting in February 1975 of the environmental study design cotanittee established by the Department which made recommendations for further assessment studies at the site.

We are pleased to offer our assistance in the review of recent information about conditions at the site and to give you the benefit of our views.
