McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Semi-Annual Radioactive Effluent Release Report Gentlemen Pursuant to McGuire Technical Specification 6.9.1.7. attached is the Subject Report for the period of July, 1990 to December 1991.
As a result of radiation releases from Me uire Nuclear S t.a t i on, no n
member of the public received an annual calculated dose exceeding those set forth in 40CFR Part 100.
This determination was made considering that there are no other fuel cycle facilities nearby which would significantly increase the dose to any member of the public.

3 Attachment II Inoperable Equipment During Reporting Period Wasta Handling Arca (WHA) noble gas monitor EMF-53 was declared inoperable on 6/27/90. The ventilation exhaust system was also tagged out at this timo.
These systems were taken out of service i
for the implomontation of a Nuclear Station Modification (HSM).
The NSM resulted in the thirty-day inoperability limit as stated in Technical Specification 3.3.3.9, Table 3.3-13, Action 37 to be exceeded.
Following completion of the HSM and testing and calibration of EMF-53, the monitor was declared operable on 9/19/90.
During the reporting
- period, thoro were no other Technical Specification-related offluont monitoring instruments out of service longer than their TS limit.

Attachment III Unmonitored Release From The Waste Handling Area On November 10, 1990, workors were terminating control wiring for the alternato supply breaker to shared motor control contor SMXR in a Unit 1 shared load center, ISLXC.
At 0913 the normal supply breaker to SMXR tripped and caused a loss of power to EMF _-53, the radiation monitor for the Waste Handling 5 ca (WHA) ventilation system. The ventilation system continued to operate and was not shut down until 1130.
This resulted in a 2 hour2.314815e-5 days <br />5.555556e-4 hours <br />3.306878e-6 weeks <br />7.61e-7 months <br /> and 17 minuto period of unmonitored release from the WHA ventilation system.
It was dotormined that there were no radiation area alarms, spills, or work in progress in the WHA during the release.
The cartridge from the continuous 24-hour particulate and charcoal rample for EMF-53, along with the particulate and charcoal samples taken from the Contaminated Parts Warehouso, Laundry, Surveillance and control Laboratory, and the Hot Machine Shop were analyzed.
The analysis of these samples revealed no activity.
Based upon the sample results, it can be concluded that no unqualified radioactive material was released from the WHA during the period when continuous monitoring was not maintained.
