I Gentlemen:

" This is in response to your letter of January 14, 1987, to me concerning the possibility of the NRC discontinuing funding for the contractural arrangement whereby the State of Georgia provides certain environmental ,

monitoring quality assurance efforts at selected nuclear power generating ,

l facilities.

We agree with your general assessment that there have been substantial benefits

. from our working together cooperatively in this regard. It is certainly our desire to maintain this type of working relationship in the future.

, As you are aware, we, like other governmental agencies, must review periodically our contractural arrangements as part of our budgetary cycle. This was done, and it was decided that these programs would remain fully funded for this fiscal  !

year (1987). At a later date, there will be a similar review in conjunction 1

withthebudgetcyclefornextfiscalyear(1988). No decisions have been made  !

i to reduce these programs.

I appreciate your letter to me and your interest in this matter. Your comments will be included in any consideration to make budgetary changes in this area.
