50-438 Bearinos. A notential defect exists in the Region IV notified.
50-439 lubricating oil system that supplies oil to the turbocharger bearings. The defect crevents oil flow to the bearings when t.he engine.is in the standby mode. The turbo-charger thrust bearings may experience rapid wear because of the unique operations of nuclear standby engines. Transamerican -
DeLavel, Inc., reported this as a Part 21 by letter to 0IE dated 12/16/80. The diesel turbocharger was manufactured by Elliot Co.,
of Jeannette, Pennsylvania.. A written report is due 2/27/81.
