E R3risica 2 I. Use of Video and Cameras In High Radiation Areas This employee concern is in the form of an employee suggestion that was made relative to work planning for work in high radiation areas, video equipment should be purchased and used for familiarization of the work II. Evaluation Nothodology The concern for this element was a WBN concern determined to be generically applicable at the K-form level to SQN. The concern is restated as follows:

i WBN-0135 "WBN should invest in both polaroid cameras and portable VCR l

cameras for periods of time when modification of maintenance work is to be done in a high radiation area. Pictures or movies could be reviewed before hand by all who will work on ites to help keep exposure down and to help coordinate between groups going into area."

This concern was expressed as a suggested plant improvement at WBN lR2 and was evaluated at SQN for applicability. The K-Form, itself, l

, was reviewed to determine the scope of the concern and three personnel who perform maintenance, radiation surveys and modifications were interviewed to determine their policy on the use of cameras and video equipment. There is no specific written TVA policy or plant procedure on the use of video equipment at SQN. It is standard practice by plant personnel to use cameras as needed to enhance their job.

l III. Findings Two interviews with personnel from the Health Physics and ALARA sections determined that they have several instamatic cameras and a 35 mm camera with a telephoto lens. Further interviews also determined that prior to initial plant criticality, the entire plant was photographed and mapped. These photographs are available for anyone who wishes to view them. The ALARA section is also currently reviewing a proposal from Combustion Engineering on a device called CEVUE. This device is automated and can take a multitude of pictures at one time.

With the aid of HP personnel, during the unit 1 cycle 3 refueling outage, a contractor was used to film steam generator eddy current work. Further steam generator work is always monitored on close circuit TV to help minimize time and exposure.

It was also determined by interviews with ALARA section personnel that l the SQN ALARA group has not previously requested VCR equipment, but is lR2 considering this as a possibility. l Page 1 of 2

R visica 2 An interview with a representative from the Mechanical Naintenance section determined that this group also has their own instamatic l cameras, a 35 mm camera and a borescope. These cameras are used as

, necessary for various jobs, whether they involve high exposure rates or not, the refueling group has many photographs and slides from past outages to be used as training aids for personnel.

Also photographs are used by the Modification section as necessary to aid in the planning and performance of difficult and high radiation jobs. The cameras are the instamatic type so that photos are available for use as soon as the pictures are shot.

l Instrument Maintenance follows the same general path as the rest of the I groups. Photographs are used to aid and supplement their work as lR2 necessary. They do possess and use some video equipment for special I projects as needed. l

Conclusions:

The results of this evaluation indicate that the Health Physics and ALARA l sections possess and use instamatic cameras. Further, no previous lR2 requests for VCR equipment by the SQN ALARA group have been submitted. l It was also found that the maintenance sections use cameras and i video equipment to aid in minimizing time spent on the job. l l

f The employee suggestion as stated identified the use of either pictures or l movies. The use of pictures by ALARA, Health Physics and maintenance l sections to aid in minimizing time and exposure adequately addresses this lR2 issue. Therefore, it is concluded the concern, WBN-0135, is not valid at l SQN. l IV. Root Cause None required. Concern found not valid.

V. Generic Applicability Based on the findings at SQN, this concern is not considered to be generically applicable to other TVA nuclear Plants. lR2 VI. References None VII. Immediate and Long-Term Corrective Action This concern was not validated and, thus, corrective action is not required.
