AND TESTS FOR PIPE AND DUCT SYSTEMS N2M-865 PREFACE N2M-865. Rev. O This specification was formerly a portion of appendix E to the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant Quality Assurance Manual. This Revision 1 is being issued as Sequoyah Project Construction Specification N2M-865, Rev. O, retyped with minor non-technical changes and rearrangement of content. The extensive rewrite of code requirements which were incorporated in Rev. O of appendix E have been dropped, i - as well as references to codes covering procurement of equipment'such as valves.

< All references to. design have been extracted and will be covered elsewhere.

I N2M-865, Rev. 1 This Rev. 1 to N2M-865 is being issued for the purpose of updating references to iceflect current installation requirements at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and to add definitions pertinent to site activities.

This specification has been reviewed for adequacy by responsible personnel in '

the Division of Engineering Design - Thermal Powar Engineering and Design Projects and Division of Construction - Sequoyah Nuclear Plant; all comments have been resolved. Separate specifications will be issued for special con-(p* I siderations as required. , .

w n 6.0 CLASSIFICATION OF SYSTEMS The codes and standards listed in section 5.0 of this specification do

,. not provide guidance in the selection of the class of components for a specific system. Such guidance is derived from systems safety criteria applicable to specific types of nuclear power systems as specified in engineering standards or as may be required by regulatory authorities.

6.1 Pipe and Duct Lines Applicable physical piping and duct drawings should be referred to for exact limits of system classification. Refer to SQN-DC-V-3.0 and '

SQN-DC-V-3.2 for guidance.

. 6.2 Instrument Sensing, Sampling, and Radiation Monitoring Lines Lines that are part of the reactor coolant pressure boundary, greater than 3/8-inch inside diameter and not isolated from the main process piping by a 3/8-inch or smaller orifice, are to be TVA Class A. All other lines attached to a TVA Class A fluid system boundary are TVA i

Class B out to and from (but not including) the associated instrument, i

and/or to and including the first normally closed valve.

Lines attached to TVA Class B fluid' system boundaries are TVA Class B;

('/-)

v , lines attached to Class C, D, M, Q, or ,S boundaries are TVA Class C , >

i to and from (but not including) the associated instrument, and/or to and including the first normally closed valve.

Lines and valves forming a part of primary contain= ant isolation are to be TVA Class B.

i Lines other than those described should be TVA Class G within seismic structures and TVA Class H in nonseismic structures.

Gs ADDENDUM III CLARIFICATION OF REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS U AND V DUCTS AND HANGERS AND OPERABLE / INOPERABLE DUCTS Site Inquiry:

Please clarify the following:

1. Requirements for installation and documentation of supports on TVA Class U and V ducts.
2. Definition of ducts which are identified on system drawings as " operable" or " inoperable."'

EN DES-MEB Answer:

1. Examination and do'cumentation for safety related HVAC piping and duct-work and all supports (Seismic Category I and dead load) located in a Seismic Category I building shall be limited to the following:

A. Field inspection to insure conformance to design drawings which may be accomplished by complete documentation as outlined in. Sequoyah (J

/.i) N.P. Construction Procedure M-27, Attachment A, Revision O.

i B. Certificate of compliance for all structural steel required for fabrication of supports and restraints and compliance with drawings.

Material traceability for fabrication of HVAC piping and ductwork is specifically excluded except when required for TVA Classes A, B, C, or D. -

II. All HVAC piping and ductwork designated operable (OPER) is essential to the operation of safety related systems and is supported in accordance to Seismic Category I requirements (horizontal and vertical loads).

Systems in Category I building not indicated to be operable are non- ,

- safety related and are provided with dead load supports only. Although these systems are non-essential, the dead load supports (vertical I seismic load only) serve a safety function to insure that an essential system is not degraded by failure of a non-essential system.
