Subject: NRC Region I Meeting Report No. 50-219/87-18
This refers to the management meeting held May 11, 1987, at the NRC Region I
Office, during which we discussed (1) your actions in response to Confirmatory
Action Letter 87-05, dated May 8,1987, relating to your corrective actions for
the April 24, 1987 containment vacuum breaker events; and (2) your actions in
response to the problem of water hammer in the Core Spray System test lines.
The meeting was beneficial to us in understanding your actions relative to our
concerns in these areas. A summary of the meeting is enclosed with this
letter.
This letter also confirms our followup telephone conversation of May 12, 1987,
during which I informed you that (1) regarding the April 24, 1987 vacuum
breaker event, we find your short-term corrective actions, as described in your
May 7,1987 letter and at the May 11, 1987 meeting, acceptable; and (2) we find
your approach to resolution of the Core Spray water hammer and related issues
acceptable.
No reply to this letter is required. We consider Confirmatory Action Letter
87-05 closed. Our continued followup of the containment vacuum breaker issues
will be tracked under NRC Region I Inspection Report No. 50-219/87-16.
