This procedure describes the method and sequence for the performance and documentation of the field verification.

i Engineering has developed a " minimum weld" drawing (Attachment B) for T. J. Cope Ladder Tees as an initial step towards resolution of SDAR 85-50. Tees are to be qualified on the basis l

of testing using test samples which are either " minimum weld" l

cases or worse found in field. don satisfactory completion of the test, fittings in Unit 1 and Unit 2 which are found weaker j

than test samples by walkdown will be identified as to require replacement or physical modification.

O '

TUGCO Engineering O TE-FVM-CS-050, Rev. 0 January 5, 1987 t

Page 2 2.1.2 SCOPE The scope of this procedure applies to T.'J. Cope Ladder Tee Fittings in Unit 1 and Unit 2 (see Attachment A). The walkdown shall include obtaining and recording on " Field Data Entry Sheets" (Attachment C) fitting dimensions and weld information related to " Channel to Stringer" and " Rung to Channel" Joints.

j In addition, the walkdown team will evaluate and record ease of in-situ repair of above welds as well as replacement of fittings.

2.2 RESPONSIBILITIES TUGCO has delegated overall program responsibility to the EBASCO Engineering Manager. The EBASCO Engineering Manager has delegated the responsibility for the implementation of the program described by this procedure to the EBASCO Unit 2 Supervising Engineer.

O

' Where specific individuals are designated by title in this procedure, it shall be understood that they may delegate a designee to act in that capacity. This delegation of authority must be in writing and shall not be redelegated more.than once in the same organizational chain.  ;

i A walkdown walkdown team shall consist of a craft person and a welding engineer.

l j

of the craft person, The shall welding walkdown engineer, with the help obtain and record required data on the FDES.

- the process of acquiring information of the actual installed condition of certain specified attributes and. ,

reflecting this information on a Field Data Entry Sheet (Attachment l C).

" Inaccessible"

- attribute which cannot be measured or identified without physical 4

removal of any portion of the cable tray, fire protection cover and/or relocation of adjacent hardware.

3.0 INTERFACE CONTROL All interfacing to be in accordance with references 1-G and 1-H. i

, 4.0 PREPARATION FOR WArEnowN i

1.

t The Walkdown Supervisor shall initiate and coordinate the walkdown following documents and prepare asthe walkdown packages utilizing the applicable:

A.

Unit 1 CTH Span Length drawings listed on Attachment A.

B.

!- Unit 1 Cable Tray Hanger drawings listed on Attachment A as reference to Tee' Fitting locations.

1 C.

G&H Cable Tray Segment drawings listed on Attachment A.

5.0 SELECTED ATTRIBUTES TO BE VERIFIED Attributes to be verified are " Channel to Stringer" and Rung to Channel" welds in the T. J. Cope Ladder Tees. The walkdown i

team, on locating a Tee, shall identify the type of Tee. If th,e l

Tee is Cope Ladder type, they shall proceed to obtain and record '

the remaining information required in the " Field Data Entry-Sheets" (FDES), see Attachment C. If tray has thermolas, it shall be removed by construction in accordance with the applicable procedure to allow inspection and measurement of welds.

Weld length and location shall be verified and re~orded c

on the FDES. Tray dimensions W, t, L and D on the FDES shall be recorded to the nearest whole inch.

Missing and cracked welds shall be noted by the welding walkdown engineer by entering " MSG" and "CRCE" respectively on the FDES, see Attachment C, for test purposes only.

() Acceptability evaluation of weld attributes which are missing or cracked is part of the tee fitting test. Tees which are j

identified by test as to require modification or replacement i

shall be reported on a CDR in accordance with Reference 1-I.

The walkdown tema shall also evaluate ease of repair of welds  !

4 for each Tee, and ease of removal for each Tee. In-situ repair of welds may be considered feasible only if cable fill is  !

I insignificant and can be shielded adequately to carry out

! welding in a safe manner. Similarly, removal of fitting would be considered possible if existing cables can be temporarily supported by some suitable means.

5.1 DEFICIENCIES Any and all deficiencies identified in conjunction with :the implementation of this procedure, including missing and/or cracked welds, Reference 1-I. shall be documented on a CDR in accordance with .

6.0 RECORDS Walkdown Supervisor shall maintain a los of Tee Fittings,

incorporating walkdown information and comparisons of existing t

welds with estimated minimum weld requirements. FDES generated with the walkdown process shall be transmitted to TE EA in accordance with reference 1-A.
