UPGRADE REVIEW NUREG 0737 ITEM II.E.1.1 Your April 7 letter requested that the District confirm that the information required to resolve the three remaining open items on the staff's review of the upgraded AFWS will be submitted by May 2, 1983.

The District will be able to submit a proposed solution for item (2) additional protection for the condensate storage tank by May 2.

Additionally, it appears to be possible to provide a justification for item (3) the adequacy of the AFWS under high energy and medium energy line break situations by May 2.

Satisfactory justification for item (3) is based on the assumption that we can demonstrate that the current line break analysis is adequate for the existing AFWS.

If not, additional work would be required to close this item.

Regarding the other item (1) protection of the AFWS from internal missiles, the District has asked a contractor to provide a cost estimate and proposal to complete the required study. The District will be able to state its position on this item by May 2 based on this information.
