$SMUD SACRAMENTO MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT O 6201 S Street, Box 15830, Sacramento, California 95813; (916) 452 3211 July 27, 1982 DIRECTOR OF NUCLEAR REACTOR REGULATION ATTENTION JOHN F STOLZ CHIEF OPERATING REACTORS BRANCH 4 V S NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON DC 20555 DOCKET 50-312 RANCHO SEC0 NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION UNIT N0 1 II.E.1.2 AUXILIARY FEEDWATER SYSTEM FLOW INDICATION In a telephone conversation on July 21, 1982, Mssrs. Mark Padovan and Mark Wigdor of the NRC requested additional information on the auxiliary feedwater system flow indication to be provided at Rancho Seco Unit 1.

Specifically, they wanted to know what would be done with the presently installed control grade flow indication and whether it would be upgraded to safety grade as part of the upgrade.

The currently installed flow indicator is a sonic device and will not be upgraded.

It will be replaced with a safety grade differential pressure flow indicator.

This will consist of a flange and orifice with two transmitters in each auxiliary feedwater line. This will provide an A and B channel flow indication for each auxiliary feedwater line in the control room.

If we can provide any additional information, please adviso.
