SUBJECT:

AUTHORIZED FURNITURE ALLOWANCES FOR OFFICE RELOCATIONS j o ,

In accordance with J. Funches' memo to all NRR employees dated January 22, 1986,

/d

. _., personnel other than branch chiefs, section chiefs, or secretaries will be aur ,I J thorized only cne file cabir:et. This will adversely impact the Division's capability to respond quickly and accurately to upper management's requests for infornation.

There are presently five file cabinets in my office; each of them is almost completely filled with infortnatten on the eight projects to which I am currently assigned. Many of these documents are the only copies in existence in the entire agency and are not the type which would be retained in the Document Control System. According to Funches' memo, most of this material should be either thrown in the trash or sent to TIDC for their personnel to decide what should be ke'pt and what should be disposed of.

Many times when people are working on special projects or looking for briefing material used earlier (Commission briefings, etc), the only place the infor-mation is available is in my files. For example, the work I did for you last

. year on cancelled and deferred projects. If, in fact, I am limited to one file cabinet, I will be able te maintain a very minimal file on each project. This file will include only the current action on the project and will be disposed of as soon as the amendment or other action is cotopleted. In addition, there '

will be no more extra copies of amendments, orders, etc., when the Division -

Director needs a copy in a rush. ,

I suggest we discuss this matter at your earliest convenience to be sure you are fully aware of the consequences resulting from the destruction of all this material.

Moves are scheduled to begin the weekend of January 31. If .I do not hear from

  • you to the contrary prior to that date. I intend to dispose of all the above mentioned material retaining only current action files on each pro.fect.
