\\ e r I 2 's-APR 3 0 1967 Memo for: RAB Walt Pasciak.:9T < r/ i Through Frank Congol us From: Wayne Meinke hA y
Subject:
Microfiche Files: NUREG Documents: Case Work Archival Files i RAB now has in P-720B an interchangeable-lens microfiche reader-printer and a complete set of NUREG, NUREG/CR, and Wash documents on 24X microfiche. We will be addin,g microfiche copies of DOE, ERDA, ~ EPA, EPRI, and other non-NRC documents that are of special use to us. Our agreement in obtaining the ficne collection was to replace our RAB hard copy collection of NRC documents with fiche to free up shelf space for additional case work archival files. Hard copies of new NRC documents will be kept for 6 months or so until we receive fiche copies. We plan to keep several small collections of hard copies of specific categories of NRC documents on the RAB shelves. For the rest we will rely on microfiche. However, all RAB members will be given an opportunity to look over and take for their personal use in their offices hard copies of NRC documents displaced by microfiche. All remaining hard copies will be returned to Document Distribution. It should be pointed out that in addition to RAB members being able to make copies of individual pages of NRC dccuments on the reader / printer, we have been promised that we can obtain a complete 4 hard copy of any such NRC document witin 72 hours. Thus there should be little incentive for keeping in.yout own personal collection documents other than those you use every day in your casework and specific technical responsibilities. The 48X lens on the reader printouts and of the DCS (TERA)/ printer is for microfiche of computer system. Although it is not feasible to have old computer printouts converted to microfiche, we are sug-gesting that for all future computer runs a microfi'che copy be obtained in addition to the hard copy printout. A few special instruction cards for each run will automatically bring a microfiche copy by mail from BNL. In this way hard copy printouts of primarily archival value can be discarded and the information kept on microfiche.
- This, hopefully, will help us to keep our calculation archives to 8-10" of files per plant.
We can also reduce the archival storage space required per plant by obtaining duplicate microfiche of DCS system fiche and filing them in either the reports ; files or the calculation files for our plants. Once you determine the exact location of a report in the ARMS microfiche file of the DCS system, we can get one -- or several -- copies of the appropriate fiche for our files. Furthermore, keep in mind that each OR will be submitting adupdated FSAR in July,1982 -- and that this FSAR will be entered into the DCS and ARMS system. Potentially each reviewer could have a microfiche copy of the entire PSAR or pertinent sections of it ir. his(herst ) files. r h / 8605300503 860523 PDR FOIA ~ i SHOLLYB6-206 PDR
