Dear Sir:

The capacity ratings used by Alabama Power Company in calculating various factors for reporting purposes are determined from actual generation capacity data taken during July and August when our system experiences its peak demand. There are three different ratings established from this measured data:

Plant Peak Hour, System Peak Hour, and Peak Period Continuous. Per NRC instructions, Alabama Power Company uses the Peak Period Continuous rating for the MDC Net value in the Monthly Operating Data Report. The 1984 data for Unit 2 which established the ratings for 1985 indicated 810.1 MW - System Peak Hour and 807.2 MW - Peak Period Continuous. This represented a slight decrease from the data measured in 1983 and used throughout 1984.

Alabama Power Company made the decision to retain the previous year System Peak Hour rating of 811.7 MW due to work that was in progress on the Unit 2 cooling towers; however, we failed to use..se corresponding Peak Period Continuous rating of 809.2 MW from the previous years data.

Therefore, throughout 1985, we reported a Net Maximum Dependable Capacity (MDC Net) value of 807.2 MW on the Monthly Operating Data Report, which corresponded to the rating of 810.1 MW, while we should have reported 809.2 to be consistent with the 1985 rating of 811.7 MW.

Since the MDC Net value is used to calculate the monthly, year-to-date, and cumulative capacity factors, those reported for Unit 2 on the Monthly Operating Data Report in 1985 are in error. Per conversation with Mr. Maurice Beebe, revised pages of the Monthly Operating Data Report are being submitted to reflect the correct MDC Net value and the correct capacity factors for Farley Unit 2 for January 1985 throug'n December 1985.

If you have any questions, please advise.

Yours very tr 8603170542 860310
