The "B" isolation condenser isolated upon actuation and the "A" unit did not. When the "B" condenser was returned to nors.a1 af ter the isolation, all valves operated properly emcept the AC condensate return valve which did not open. Part of the probles was traced to improper connection of instrumentation (unchanged since original construction) and in part to improper limit switch settings on the valve operator.

i Repairs were made and proper operation assured and tested.

I No ACRS action is recomended.

AC18 or occurrence No. 78, dated January 4. 1973 reporte a primary system blevdown on December 29, 1972. During this event one main steam isolation valve fatted to close and ese isolation condenser condensata Turn valve fatted to open. The blowdown fo11oved a turbit.;. . . :. f and reactor scram, the relief valves opened at their proper setpoints but one f ailed to ressat end the reactor blev down until it was cospistely depressurised, the core was not uncovered. No radioactivity was released to the environment. The investigation is continuing.

ACTION It is recocoended that the ACRS discuss this incident with the Regulattry Staff.
