ifjjbU 8GJE OYSTER CREEK AND NINE MILE POINT STITi TUBES - DOCKET N0t. $0-219 6 50-On January 16, 1968 V. Stello and I contacted (telephone) Mr. Ritter of Jersey Central Power 6 Light Cottpany and Mr. Ewart of Niagata Mohawk Power Corporation to request additional data on tne control I
rod stub tubcs and adjoined housings or guide tubes. The request l
for the data was made in response to the concerno raised by the ACFJ i
at its January 1968 meeting.
The f ollowing data were requested from both Niagara Mohawk and Jersey Central:
1.
For a representative sample of the adjoined housings, including several from the outer rows, the following measurements should be taken snd made availabic to us
- An axial traverse of the internal diameters in at 1 cast two plancs should be performed.
Ideally, the traverse should be extended'to a length wherein it can be established that the inside diameter remnins essentially constant, but should include measurements l
at intervals of about 1/2" for about 6" above and below the field welds. We i
indicated that the adequacy of the 1/2" increments should be confirmed by initial i
Further, the two screening measureu nts e l
planes of measurement should be for the maximum and minimu,m wave shapes.
i 2.
Axial traverse of the outsido diameter of the stub tubes (tubes associated with the housing in (1))
should also be performed.
- 3.
Analytical predictions of the deformation pattern measured in (1) above should be made availabic for our review.
- 4.
A discussion and c.nalysis of tha correlation between the deformation measured in (1) and (2) should be provided.
!1
- May be provided later than items 1 & 2.

riles (50-219 6 50-220) JAN1Y mod Mr. Ritter md Mr. Ewart were informed that the data requested above should be supplied on an infortr.a1 basis. We informed JC and hMP that they should make every effort to obtain tne data before irrevocabic changes were made to the ieactor vessel co:cplex. Niagara Mohawk was further requested to repeat the measurements after the-forthcoming hydro.
I also indicated that this data was of interest to the Committee and should be availabic before we and the Cot =nittee completed our reviews.
Both JC and h'MP agreed to provide the requested i
data. The time period is of thu order of a week for items 1 and 2 j
and a few weeks later for 3 and 4.
